As you know, most malware is targeted to windows systems. As a mac, you will be below the radar, even on limewire...but not invincible. Even if you get an infected file, as it would be targeted "most of the time" to a windows platform. You would be safer than the rest.
You will know the same way PC users know. It varies from absolutely no indication at all - through total OSX crash, deleted files, formated drives, and all the nasty stuff from the bible.
As far as antimalware + firewall, I would suggest AGAINST an all in one package. Go out and get the best of each breed. There are plenty out there. Fire up your fav search engine and do your homework - even on the ones that you will get answered in this question.

I agree. this question have been asked because of the fact the term "firewall" got here up. even though, that's solid to observe that ZoneAlarm protection Suite have been voted as having the main shelter Firewall at a similar time as Norton have been voted with the appropriate Anti Virus. i in my opinion desire Zonealarm

I think that the Norton AntiVirus System is the best i think of. But it requires you to pay since its a good prduct.
