When it comes to looking after children, doctors don't take chances. The reprecussions if they miss something is awful. So don't worry. What's worrying your doctor is that the headache is present in the mornings - after she has been lying down for a while. If associated with vomitting, this may be an indication of raised pressure inside her head. There are several causes for this, and the MRI will help to distinguish a few of them. MRI scans don't involve any radiation, so don't worry about her being being exposed to this. Lastly, just remember that your doctor is ruling out the most serious stuff first. It's the way things are done. Try your best not to worry and remember that thankfully, the serious stuff is either very rare or very treatable.

I had an MRI scan last year. The scan for me lasted about 90 minutes, and I was half panicking the entire time. I stuck it out, though, and here's why: 1. I requested a movie to watch through lenses. Which didn't exactly help, because I couldn't see anything, but in the same way it did. If you ask for a movie or some music to listen to, I am sure they would be more than happy to cater to your needs. 2. In between each scan, the technical supervisor would talk to me for a moment. During the actual scans, it was very scary. I couldn't hear anything and they seemed as if they would last forever. But just to hear someone's voice was reassuring. I recommend that you ask your technical worker if they could talk to you for a moment in between each scan. Also, you might want to go ahead and let them give you the anesthesia or other medication to knock you out. If it had been up to me, I would have rather been unaware for that hour and a half. No, I'm pretty sure that MRI machines are all the same size, but I couldn't say for certain. I think they make open MRI machines as well but I don't have experience there. I hope I've helped and good luck!

I've had an MRI when I was a little kid bcuz I was having headaches and it was kinda freaky to go into the big machine bcuz it makes loud knocking sounds. Just bring along a comfort teddy or buy one and tell her its a courage bear and that it'll keep her company while inside. My MRI came back negative and the doctors told my Mom it was probably nothing. I'm fine now

my friends had to take their 18 month old for one.... the bones in her skull weren't fusing but the time they are supposed to be, so they had to get one to check for stuff that could be delaying the process. They said it was hard to do, cuz kids don't stay still so they need to be put out, but she made it through just fine and the MRI didn't find anything. I don't know what could be causing her headaches...cuz there's a ton of things it could be, but my friend's child made it through the MRI just fine... she'll be okay

I've actually had an MRI all they do is lay her down on a bed and the bed goes back into a tube. She would have to lay still for a couple minutes at a time. It makes alot of noise but they give you earplugs and sometime they play music. Its completely harmless and it doesn't hurt at all.
