Depends on the job & what you did wrong. If you did some small time theft & are applying to be a cashier, then they do not have to hire you because of the risk of you stealing again. Employers cannot tell you thats why they will not hire you, but many will not consider you because of it. Also, if you lie & don't mention it & then they find out, they can fire you or lying.

Yes, if the employer knew you have a misdemeanor, he has the option to refuse to hire you.

why tell them? they are asking if you have a felony and that and the misdemeanor are 2 different things.

yes, all depends on the job you are applying for. Some do back round checks.
