Borrow one of your father's dress shirts. Put it on with the sleeves rolled up and the collar up. Put a skinny or a wide belt around your waist to 'cinch' it. Wear a pair of leggings (black is OK, but lace, pink, teal or purple is even better) under it. Wear either Converse, boots, or stilettos. Wear lots of plastic jewelry, lots of black mascara, darm rose or pink blush (in a stripe UNDER the cheekbone), and blue eyeshadow.

"Scrunch" hair with lots of gel while wet giving it kind of a rat's nest look. If you have bangs, curl them and spray them straight up. There's also a 'wing' you can do by spraying the sides of your hair out just above your ears. The more curling and hairspray you can do to your hair, the better.

The more mesh and lace you can wear, the more eighties you'll look.

Depends on what aspect of the 80s you want to be...

I'd say go New Wave. It's the most recognizable look.
Dye a blue or pink streak in your hair, then put it up so it's all on one side of your head, use bright makeup that matches the hair streak. Neon green and pink lace leggings, gloves, top, whatever you can find, mixed with animal print works well for that "thrift store explosion" look. Madonna, Cindi Lauper, Dale Bozzio (of Missing Persons) all wore oversized net petticoats as skirts, and it's a pretty sure bet you can find one in a used clothing store. As many bracelet bangles as you can manage and a cheap plastic crucifix complete the look.

There ya go, you'll look like you're ready to go see Flock of Seagulls.

Ok, since I am a product of the 80's, and the fad seems to be back, it shouldn't be too hard to find stuff for this. First, I'm a big fan of the off center pony tail, with a scrunchie of course. I would take an old big teeshirt, cut of the shoulder, and allow ur shoulder to pop out. Wrap a patent belt around your middle, slap on some tights, leg warmers, and keds, and you're ready to go!

Get some really faded jeans and cut holes in the knee, and maybe one low on the butt. Wear some tight shorts underneath so you don't show your undies!

Get a fleece shirt and cut the neck trimming off ( at a wide angle), and cut the bottom off to above your waistline. Wear a bright color tank top underneath, and pull the fleece off one shoulder.

Get some Keds, or cheap white tennies, and have all your friend graffiti your shoes and pants.

Wear your hair pulled into a ponytail high up, and way to the side!

Big hoop earings, bright blue and purple eyeshadow.

Lots of bracelets!

Don't forget, we used to make most of our clothes "ours" way back then!

Chew gum!

Absolutely NO FLARE JEANS, that was the biggest no-no then.

As a matter of fact, we pegged our jean bottoms to be sure no one accused us of having bell bottoms! That was an insult.

Some of these other answers are AWESOME!

Have fun, chica! God knows, we did!

Try feathering your hair really big and put on a white blouse and some dressy slacks, plus a pair of shoes with very high heels. Compliment with lots of mascara, big earrings, plastic bracelets, and perfume. Don't listen to the tie-dye and blue afro wig mumbo jumbo. Odds are that person never lived through the eighties.

Maybe go for the "Valley Girl" look? (Try mini skirts but not too short, striped shirts hanging slightly off the shoulder, big earrings, gobs of lip gloss, lots of bracelets and patent leather pumps with white lace socks.) For your hair: wear a pony tail on the side perhaps? And I agree with the other poster who said don't wear flared jeans. The jeans were always tapered & skinny back then. Good luck...hope you look "totally bitchin"! :)

Wear a semi-baggy neon shirt (Hot pink, bright blue/green) and skinny jeans with a pair of sneakers. For accessories, wear a thick bracelet or hoops. I had that for school spirit week 2 weeks ago.
