Tradition? I'm sure you are not saying that all americans eat in the same way... But maybe some people want to cut it all up as they like eating it when its a bit cooler

I'm American and I've done it both ways. Like if I'm eating in the living room I will cut up my food in the kitchen before I sit down because it's easier. Of course that's if I need a knife to cut it. If I don't need a knife I cut it with my fork while eating. If I'm out to eat or eating at a table I will cut it as I eat it.

That is a generalization. I cut my food as I eat it, but if I am cutting for my kids because they cannot use a knife yet, I cut all of it up so they can eat it. It depends on the person and the food.

Firstly it cools your food down

Not all Americans cut there food first. I cut mine as I eat it. Though American, I'm clueless as to where this "cut food first" tradition began. I see it, though, chiefly with Southerners and less with Midwesterners.

standard american culture, although proper manarisms dictate that we are to cut a single peace, then eat, cut, the eat, in that order. no cutting it up all at once
