Also some specific examples to apply to this question: One middle aged male with a history of substance abuse and a desire to control his environment. low self esteem but too much pride to admit it. Views all things as a threat becasue he won't let himself trust anyone or anything. Uses agression as a deterent for undesirable responses. Fully functional in society, mentally stable.2: Young woman brought up in a well-to-do family, with encouraging parents she believes to have ulterior motives. Has a tendency to isolate herself from people as a defense mechanism, but she is essentially functional in social settings. Fronts arrogance but doesn't enjoy confrontation, in fact she fears it.
