You do not need an agent before the combine, but you will need an agent or lawyer who is certified to negotiate your contract although most draft picks are slotted.

There is no rule that a potential player has to have an agent at all. Many current NFL players do not have agents and they negotiate their deals themselves.

You can actually be your own agent.

Daunte Culpepper is the most recent/high profile athlete to pull off a negotiation without one.

Would be wise to have an agent for your very first negotiations though.

I'm pretty sure you can go agent-less and be your own agent.
