Alaska is the largest in size. And grayjj04, you're absolutely right, most people don't realize Alaska is a state. When I lived there, I had to arrange for shipping from Washington state for some packages. The person that was taking my order via phone insisted that they didn't ship to Alaska because they didn't ship internationally! It took me over an hour, and 5 "supervisors" to find one who realized that Alaska is indeed a state.

Biggest state? That would depend on if you are asking about land mass or population. California has the largest population with over 33,000,000 people. Whereas, Alaska, has the most land within statehood borders.
