this looks a lot nicer with a few brackets:

i assume the question is {6 + sqrt8} / 2

in this case the top line can be expressed as {6 +(2*sqrt2)}
if you divide this be 2 you get {3 + sqrt2}

the confusion here comes from srqt8 which can be expressed as the product of two other square roots. in this case sqrt4 (which=2) times the sqrt2.

its just the same as 4*2=8 except you would write it as sqrt4*sqrt2=sqrt8.

Sqrt 8 = sqrt 4 * sqrt 2 = 2*sqrt 2. Dividing by 2 gives you sqrt 2 only. Adding 6 gives the correct answer, 6 + sqrt2
