My favorite book ever written was... "The Cobra Event" by Richard Preston. If you like books about diseases and medical mysteries, this is the book for you. It is a bit graphic, in the sense that the author goes into detail about the effects of the disease on the characters. It is a great read, and it is very hard to put down.
