My youth group and I want to host a candlelight vigil for World AIDS day (Dec.1), but we don't really know how to go about planning it. Does anyone know exactly what to do besides light candles and pray? Does anyone have any creative vigil ideas, we really want to make a powerful impact and bring attention to such an important cause? We need all the help we can get. Thank you.

1. Why not put your question directly to other organisations that have arranged (or are arranging) a candlelight vigil. Here are some (all USA):

a) The Pilgrim United Church of Christ, Carlsbad
"at 7 p.m., attendees can participate in a candlelight vigil 'to support people still struggling with AIDS, to commemorate those who have died and to remember that much work remains yet to be done' ..... For more information call (760) 729-6311 or write pilgrim.ucc@sbcglobal.net."

b) Meredith College
"Meredith College students have organized a weeklong series [of events] in an effort to commemorate World AIDS Day. World AIDS Awareness Week .... is sponsored by the Student Government Association's Unity Council .... Other plans include .... a candlelight vigil on World AIDS Day .... The vigil begins at sunset in front of Johnson Hall."

c) University of Utah
"U of U Event Commemorate World AIDS Day .... To commemorate World AIDS Day, the University and a number of community agencies will host a candlelight vigil and interfaith service"

2. Maybe you could read out the names of people known to have died of AIDS-related illnesses in your community, or any friends or family of members of the youth group who have died.

Second anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks? A little old isn't it? Other than that is sounds good to me.
