How come all the sand in the desert doesn't turn to glass?

Isn't it really hot there?

Yes, it's hot there, but not nearly hot enough to melt sand, although black glass is often found around volcanoes.

Because its already been turned into sand from when it used to be glass.

It would have to be heated in an oven to temps a lot hotter than that.
