Suzuki 1300 (Hayabusa) or Kawasaki 1400 (k-14) depending on who you ask.

Additional details:
By "fastest" you could mean top speed OR quickest to a particular speed. As some other posts have shown, this is debatable. Another factor would include tuning verses factory settings. My buddies swear by their "busas" and easily smoke my little Honda.

the fastest stock production street motorcycle is the Suzuki 1300 (Hayabusa) .

When it became the fastest, there was such an outcry about the speed of it from the non motorcycle public and government; that the other manufacturers detuned their bikes to be just under the Suzuki speed.

Everyone in the motorcycle field knew that you could tweak the other bikes to go faster, but by doing this; the other manufacturuers let Suzuki take all the flak, as they were still technically the fastest

YZF750R is right that bikes are restricted. However, this is a gentleman's agreement between the US government and the Japanese manufacturers. It is not a law. The Italian manufacturers see no reason to comply with this agreement. Which is why the MV Agusta F4 RR312 is, right now, the fastest production motorcycle, with the Ducati Desmosedici right behind it. It will be interesting to see what the BMW S1000 will do.

the only way to answer your question is 1/4 mile. all major m/c mfg's have been limiting top end to 186 for the last (I think) 5 years-can't remember for sure it was either 2000 or 2001. I remember-it was 2000. the fastest I remember was, again, I think, 2002 gsxr 1000 turned 9.76. the difference in all the 1000's is in 100's of a second. sport rider did some tinkering (technical term) with the busa and the zx12 one went about 190 and the other 194 top end. I don't think the zx14 has had much done with it, but it's supposed to be the baddest bike out.

Dodge makes a prototype just going into production with a 500 Hp viper motor. Theoretically it'll go over 300, but a human can't stay on it that fast. Jay Leno has a one-off jet powered bike that's the same way, too fast for a human to hold onto. If you want a bike you can ride, try Suzuki Hayabusa. 200+ mph.

Probably the Hayabusa. Are you talking top speed or acceleration? There seems to be a limit for 0-60 times around 2.5 sec b/c you can't keep the front wheel down. I haven't seen comps of 0-150 or 1/4 mile times for the contenders.

For a long time it was the Suzuki Hyubusa. It was a GSX-R 1100 i believe. But after reading some articles on modern speed bikes, i believe it is the Kawasaki ZX-14. Its a 1400cc monster that supposedly outperforms the Suzuki. Basically you would have to have balls of steel to max either out, but they are both bad *** bikes. See it on Kawasaki.com.
