taking care of animals...healing them...most vets don't start making any real money for at least 10 years. they start out as interns, and usually work for someone else before buying their own practice...the school loans alone take years to pay off. the equipment you need for your own practice costs a fortune...a lot of vets buy out a practice from a vet who is moving or retiring. i've worked for 8 vets in the past, and they've all told me the same thing, regarding the above statements. it's not easy to get into vet school either. the schooling is long and gruelling. more so than a medical doctor. that's why i became a technician instead of a vet.
however, if you have the drive and ability, go for it!

Good income, steady work, fulfilling. But like any career, you've gotta enjoy it to the max, or you won't be very good at it.
