My sister just had a baby with a man that is part Native American and my dad does not egnolg this baby unless he wants to show off to his friends. He has not had much use for this guy since day one, and this just topped the cake. Should my sister and i stand up and tell him he,s wrong, and racist?

If your sister has a problem with your dad then it is up to her to tell him he is wrong and hurtful.

However, this doesn't mean you should stay silent. When ever your dad says something racist tell him that it was rude and unnecessary to say.

Encourage your sister to stand up and tell him he is wrong if it is affecting her in any way.

If it is way out of her hands, you may need to be there to back her up when she faces him. But she must be the one who starts the conversation or else it will simply look as if you are the only one with the problem and she is just fine with what is happening.

Also if it is something other than race your dad has against this guy and your sisters baby, confronting him your self with out her starting it could be really awkward and hurtful to your dad and sister.

My dad is also racist too. Many times I have made comments to him concerning it. There has been many times that he has seen my point on things but he is so grown into being that way I can't break him of it.
Right now I would let it slide. Unless he says or does something really out of line that neither of you can handle. The fact of the matter is he probably won't change his views. But if the time comes that you need to address him I would suggest pointing out that his racism is his problem and not anyone elses. Let him know that his racism can be hurtful to you and your sister and so you would prefer that he keeps his racism to himself out of respect for the both of you.
Good luck.

you should tell him that he should start hanging out with the baby and that no matter what he does that she will still love the guy, he may just be worried for your sister, is he over-protective? that may be what it is, he probably isnt rasist though. just talk to him, trust me it will all work out in the end. good luck.luv ya.

racist people don't care that they are racist. most of them are proud of it. you could bring up the fact that it offends you that you treat him differently because of his nationality. i live in the south and most of the people i know are racist in some way. it is annoying and i basically just treat them like they are morons (the racist people... not the ethnically diverse!)

are sure its because he is Native? Maybe he doesnt acknowledge it because of a different reason; he is irresponsible or something.
