I am African (South African that is) but white.
I do not think that anyone will consider you a mongrel. Some (like me) might not see you as African, but most probably as a friendly Black American?
Whichever way people might perceive you, we will be happy to have you visit.

Senegal will welcome you. For sure. I've seen Black Americans visiting The Island of Goree. Back To Their Roots.
People in Senegal are gentle and friendly. In Senegal you will meet Africans from other African countries, too (Ghana, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Nigeria, Niger, Cameroon, Mauritania, Morocco, etc.).
Many Europeans are Senegal-addicted. They get a nice house built where they spend their vacations. Others do enjoy their everyday life there till the end of the world.
Cheap clean modern accommodations are available everywhere. Africa is worth the trip.
I am an Asian. I visited many places in the world (Hawaii, Tahiti, Seychelles, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Califonia and New York in the USA, Europe (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Luxemburg, Belgium), but I feel attracted to Africa.
The African continent is just wonderful & magic !

You'll fit in a lot better than I, a blonde white, did. Have a great trip. It's a lovely continent. Not sure of the spelling, but Sumbono is "hi" amongst the Zulus. Check out your Lonely Planets for enough of the languages to be polite in whatever country you visit, and it's hard to go wrong anywhere.

People in any country will treat you like you treat them. Where ever you travel, do NOT treat the locals as IDIOTS. Just because they do not do things the way you have done or seen them done does not make them wrong.
Treat them with respect and you will have a great time.
Also do not show off your wealth. I am sure you will have more money in your pocket than many people have seen in their life-times. Respect their culture and situations.

welcome to Nigeria. I am offering to give u a nice tour of our naturally endowed country, things u will not find anywhere in the US. Nigerians are black, so you will be most welcome. Besides, it is not a country that discriminates, there are several foreign companies here, so many foreigners including Americans.
Just give it a try.
