On my IBM Thinkpad R-51 laptop, the "r" key won't work unless I press down hard on it... I've tried cleaning the keyboard off, but that didn't help matters any. Any ideas on what's wrong, and if so, how do I fix it?

The IBM key tops are "snapped on". If you're careful, you can "snap them off" to get to the white support mechanism under that.

At that point, you'll see what is making it stick -- presumably, it's the residue from some drink, or at least some debris. CAREFULLY clean it up with some combo of canned air, q-tips, and electronics cleaner (aka "tuner cleaner"). A moist q-tip (water) might remove spilled soda.

At that point, you can snap the cap back on.

HOWEVER... when it dries, it will still stick a little if it was pop damage. Eventually it won't stick anymore.

Then again, a new keyboard for that is $90 as I recall, and is covered by warranty, and takes maybe 10 minutes to replace.
