Laptop is crashing regularly.
Last report suggested that a device driver was the cause.
Previous report suggested that the problem was with RAM.
Asked PC world for disc to download diagnostic tool.
They said that such discs are not for sale.
Tried restore systems at 3 different highlighted dates.
Didn't work.
Anyone know what might work?
If crash happens while writing email, mail is lost.
Is there any way to automatically save such mails to draft when a crash occurs?

Laptop was only bought in January.
Get the dreaded blue screen with each crash.
Laptop has 1024 MB, and 60 GB, surely enought to handle internet and email use.

When a Laptop crashes or halts and switches itself off , this fault is caused by a number of different reasons. One could be the physical memory or ram on the motherboard . If you take out your ram and replace it with another chip running at the same speed this may fix the error. However there are other reasons for crashes. One is the dreaded blue screen often called the blue screen of death. This blue screen has terrified many I.T techies , not because it is a severe problem but mainly because there are so many reasons why you get a blue screen . It could just be that the software i.e. windows is not installed correctly or it could be that your windows cd is scratched when you are installing it .It could mean you have a virus. It could be your memory (RAM) . Maybe your hard drive has had its day . The list goes on. The usual scenario is to work it out by the golden rule............ . Is this caused by hardware or software ? Consider re-installing windows with a good CD. If after windows is installed and you still get the blue screen then its the hardware. Swop out the physical memory replace it with a new chip . Did this work ? If not maybe your hard drive has a problem. If your partitioning the disk always do a slow format .Using the quick format of ntfs often does not remove viruses. It could be that all your drivers are not installed correctly check your graphics card is seated correctly and check that all drivers are installed in device manager . Finally call a qualified engineer to check your motherboard.

1st off you need to google the BSOD error codes. Normally just the 1st 2 sets of 8 characters and the file that is being referenced.
As others have said, your RAM may be fried, but as it's less than a year old, it's under warranty.
Are the error messages different each time?
You can set your email to save to draft after a period of time, usually 1 minute is the minimum.

The problem could be various things, without looking at it and doing a bit of troubleshooting (technical term for trial and error), it is almost impossible to tell.
If your laptop is under warranty, get it repaired for free from whoever sold it to you. If its not under warranty take it to a small, privately owned computer shop. Avoid PC World at all costs - there was a report today by Which? finally telling us (what we all knew anyway) that PC World dont know a computer from a teapot and they usually end up saying you need to buy a new computer, even if the fault is just a loose wire. Smaller private shops are run by enthusiasts who actually know what a computer is and how it works.
Hope you get the problem fixed soon.

Feel for you as I have the same problem, I bought a Toshiba Sat P105 laptop, nice machine, however I had the same sort of problems.
I changed memory chips, reloaded windows from scratch etc etc
Did what alot of people told me to try, in the end it was my 3D grahpic card which is faulty. Suggestion is to take it to a qualified person to check over, saves alot of time , I am still under warranty so I am in a better position.
Goodluck

Before knowing for sure hardware problem, I suggest reinstalling Windows XP not over the existing partition but with option delete C: then reformat C: with NTFS. Do not restore any files/folders after that until testing is complete. If computer hangs up with dump memory or HDD error, then you need a good HDD unless you know how to fix all bad clusters with HDD regenerator. Good luck.

This is how a computer dies """" I'm sad to say - you can do all these remedy - restore disk things- but sometimes it's kinder to say goodbye.
Mails lost in a crash could well be saved on the server - best thing is to log on to a different computer - and check your mail.
I did the same last year - ended up needing new comp !!! Is it 3 years old ? Mine was.
Hope that helps.

Try:
Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm
0x000000D1: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
(Click to consult the online Win XP Resource Kit article.)
The system attempted to access pageable memory using a kernel process IRQL that was too high. The most typical cause is a bad device driver (one that uses improper addresses). It can also be caused by caused by faulty or mismatched RAM, or a damaged pagefile.

I would be glad to help you, but you don't give us any details. What kind of laptop (specs etc), what kind of software are you using... Try to remember when did the problems start? Maybe you installed a programme which causes the problem.
Check RAM definitely and also power source. What about overheating problems?
Ask again and give more details!!!!
