child was caught incedent last year and i never knew anything about it till today from another kid..
Today my child was searched after school because a knife was missing a garden. Eventhough the garden was off limits it is not locked and on school property.
I overheard a maintenance man saying he saw some children looking at it outside of the garden. And my little girl said she saw it out side the garden at 8:00 am but didn't think anything about it.

What my concern is why weren't we notifed our children would not be allowed to leave till late and why the maintnace people are allowed to leave knives out near children.
Also my question "should parents be informed" they have no intentions to do so

All parents should be notified if a kid brings a gun to school no matter what the age or grade.

Simple answer: YES

Politically Correct answer: Depends on the state/jurisdiction.

I feel any incident involving weapons at a school should be warranted to have all parents contacted. If your school system doesn't do that, go to your Board of Education meetings and demand a system of reporting to parents. If they refuse, then elect new board members.

I believe parents should be informed about something as serious as kids bringing guns to school. Also I find it unacceptable that they kept your child late without notifying you first and having you come to the school.

YES parents SHOULD b informed, and the child who brought danger taken out of that school. My mom is the owner and principal of my school, and I asked her. She said the ones who control that school that u r talking about, like the maintenance people, were indeed HIGHLY irresponsible. And our advice is that u change ur child to another school before something happens 2 her.
