I know that the umbilical cord is attached to the placenta which is attached to the uterus. And I know that baby takes sips of amniotic fluid. But how does the food I eat actually get to baby?

I've noticed that about 15-20 minutes after I eat, my baby starts moving a LOT. And if I drink something (like water, juice, etc.), then baby starts moving in about 5 minutes.

Any idea?

Thanks..

Regards,
Mari

The nutrients from the foods you eat travel via the blood stream through the placenta, thru the umbilical cord and into the baby's blood stream.

they don't "eat" food. the nutrients are given to your baby thru the umbilical cord. kind of like an iv in your veign that gives medicine.

if you ever notice as well when you drink something cold the baby will move! My doctor told me to try it so IF I would ever have moments I would think I would not feel the baby the baby would move! IT WORKS!
