It will defenitley be Sonic. He's fast, Mario is plump. Sonic is blue, which totally beats red, and sonic is an animal, mario is an overweight loser.

Sonic's got speed...but that's all he has. Mario can double his size, he can shot fireballs, he can fly, he can turn to a statue for like 5 seconds, and he can swim under water. However, he can only do that if he gets a special mushroom, a magical flower, enchanted leaves, or frog costumes. Now that I think of it...why is it that having a tail helps Mario fly? Shouldn't he have wings to do that? Or a jet pack? And why can't he swim without a frog suit on? It must be psychosomatic. Anyways, I'd put my money on Mario.
Anyways, since you posted this question in the music section...SMB has better music than Sonic, hands down.

Alright. Sonic has almost as much powerups as mario. Sonic fire barrier counters marios fire flower since the fb absorbs fire and heat.
Marios frog suit beats sonics water barrier because his frog suit can mover much faster than sonic when hes underwater. No offemnse. Plus mario would last longer .
Electric barrier and cape feather are a tie. Even while flying, Marios no match for sonics superfast speeds. Sonic can even rival gokus ssjs speed. Without even going super. So sonic can dominate the capefeather.
Super sonic beats metal mario and the starman. I mean, thats what it takes for mario to beat super sonic. Plus, the electric barrier gives sonic a lot of rings in battle.
Sonic in his normal state can just run away from giant mario. I mean
Giant marios pretty slow.i could just use a car to get away. And sonic has the speed of sound. GIANT mario only has a limited amount of time before he changes back to mario. Which leads to his greatest weakness.
Everyone should know mario stands no chance against sonic. If you dont and actually know About sonic and mario your a son of a ***** and i hate you. Sonics defeated robots all the time like mecha sonic, silver sonic, and metal sonic. When hes not beating robots, hes beating DEMIGODS. while mario defeats weird creatures like that wierd tree monster thing . The only thing that seemed firece and deadly was bwser so far from what ive seen. Especially when he transforms into giga bowser, which reminds me of godzilla. The point is, Sonic saves WORLDS AND GALAXYS. While mario struggles to save a small kingdom and that pretty pincess called peach. Althogh hes survied a thing more dangerous than I couldve imagined. Mario party. Believe it or not, sonic is stronger than mario too. EVEN I was suprised. I can understand if you dont believe this. But sonic can punch through living with ease while mario in his weakest state struggles to break solid brick without his most basic powerup. The mushroom. Marios hands will fall off if it ever tries to counter The spindash. Mario can still put up a good fight. Some sonic fans would say sonic wins hands down. But it would still be kind of hard for sonic to win. Im a sonic fan and I wasnt sure who would win. I had to search up all the information. I know who wins every match. If im not sure I look up everything about the two characters. Mario and Sonic are my two most favorite characters in video game history. And sonic is kind of ripped off of mario. I think he was meant to win. Thats not fair for mario. No wonder their powerups counter each other. Mario shouldve won. Screwattacks pn my side about who would win.

Just to let you know, people have different opinions. There's isn't a REAL answer as to whether Mario or Sonic is better. Mario fans will say that Mario is better, and Sonic fans will say Sonic is better. Simple as that.
