I don't believe all Britt's hate Americans nor do all Britt's hate George Bush. There is a disconnect between many Britt's and many Americans as there should be. The problem for the majority of Americans is that western Europe and Canada have different belief and value systems. Bush is just the most prominent visual voice of those Americans so he becomes the target. That doesn't make the Britt's right and the Americans wrong or vice versa. It just means that the majority of Europe and Canada disagree with the majority of America. The problems start when one side tries to convert the other side into believing and acting as they do. Unfortunately for the Americans the "rest of the world" seems to be banding together to force America to change its beliefs and values and that will deepen the divide.

A lot of Britons do not like Americans, mainly out of ignorance. I think that when a lot of the British talk about Americans, they are actually thinking about the American government.

I have been fortunate to visit America on a number of occasions, and found many people I met to be genuinely friendly and kind.

Because America is such a large country, with so many people living there, whatever one says about America is likely to be true; but the opposite it also likely to be true, as well.

In other words, don't generalise; it makes you look silly.

Well I don't know were you have heard that, I don't think it is true for moment. America is far closer to British culture than most of our European neighbours.
I think it is too easy to confuse a dislike of current American politics with a dislike of America overall, it is not the case and as you say the Americans are just as unhappy with their current political administration.
We surely have a lot a common on this point anyway, our shower of shite government are absolutely nothing to proud of either!

People everywhere generalize. You cannot put everyone in the same box. We are all different. In fact "some of my best friends are Brits" (joke. Don't take me serious). In a perfect world, everyone would love one another (Beatles). This is not or will it ever be a perfect world so let's make the best of it.

there is a certain kind of Yank arrogance that is unloveable to outsiders, e.g. jane l. on Yahoo! Answers, but I am sure hardly any of us have a blanket hatred of Americans. To be fair, the stereotype shaven-headed, beer-bellied "Eng-er-land" fan is just as horrible for the same reasons.

This is your opinion. I know for a fact that many British Love American's . I have family in Great Britian and I know we are loved. It must be only people like you who think this way. You don't know me and many other wonderful, respectfull Americans who Love The UK. You are our neighbor, so lets be friends.

I agree that not all Brits hate Americans... I'm American (well, half American) and I have many good British friends who are always telling me how much they adore America.

i don't hate americans, there are plenty brits who are numbskulls aswell, probably including me, lol.

at least the americans have realised the mistakes they made in the last election, proving that americans are not the idiots some people might believe them to be.
