14+2(4g-3)=40
14+8g-6=40 (distribute through)
8+8g=40 (combine like terms)
8g=32 (subtract 8 from both sides)
g=4 (divide both sides by 8)

Okay, first you just have to expand 2(4g - 3). Multiplying each term in the parentheses by 2, we have: 2(4g - 3) = 8g - 6. Thus,

14 + 2(4g - 3) = 14 + (8g - 6) = 14 - 6 + 8g = 8 + 8g.

We have that 14 + 2(4g - 3) = 40, which leads us to

8 + 8g = 40 => 8g = 40 - 8 = 32 => g = 32 / 8 = 4.

Thus, g is 4.

14+2(4g-3)=40
distribute the 2
14+8g-6=40
-14 +6 \ -8 move the constants to one side
8g=32
/8 /8 divide by 8 on both sides to continue isolating the g
g=4

x^3 + 2x^2 - x - 2 = 0 that is a cubic function, you want to ingredient it: x^3 - x + 2x^2 - 2= 0 x(x^2 - a million) + 2(x^2 - a million) = 0 (x + 2)(x^2 - a million) = 0 then locate the roots (values for x that make the equation artwork): x + 2 = 0 x = -2 or x^2 - a million = 0 x^2 = a million x = a million or x = -a million (bear in mind that the sq. root of a range may be both valuable or adverse) so your roots are -2, -a million, and a million plug them decrease back into your unique equation to make confident they artwork: x^3 + 2x^2 - x - 2 x = -2 (-2^3) + 2(-2^2) + 2 - 2 = -8 + 8 + 2 - 2 = 0 x = -a million (-a million^3) + 2(-a million^2) + a million - 2 = -a million + 2 + a million - 2 = 0 x = a million (a million^3) + 2(a million^2) - a million - 2 = a million + 2 - a million - 2 = 0
