...Why does everyone want to live here? We have the death penalty and you have FAR more racial violence in your country, so that leads us to conclude you are far too tolerant and we are doing something really right.
It's actually wonderful to live here and our violent crime rate is it's lowest in history,,,
more than I can say for what's going on over there.......

ipygmalio:
This incarceration level is mainly due to the strict policies in the 'war on drugs'.
Most people in our prisons are there for nonviolent drug offenses.
This is the major criticism I have of my country, still fighting a failed war on 'drugs'.
..that and overcorporatization..probably assisting in the war on drugs.
You take a sample of Texas: This state has an extremely high illegal immigration rate, it has very strict law enforcement and is a very multicultural place.
Another reason could be going into our laws in general, you are far more lenient in your laws, say if a baby sitter kills a baby, or if the mother kills her kids, you just about let her go!
We don't and that's the way we like it.
You actually have to pay for your crimes here. It is not without flaw, but I'd sooner punish a child murderer than comfort her and make excuses for her such as your countries do.

Do you speak for all Americans because you're quite arrogant and conceited. You see what you want to see. If you actually read some of the questions on here you would see there are some Americans peeved off with the state of their country. How can you say everyone wants to live there, have you actually met everyone? I quite like it here in the UK and if I were to move anywhere it would be to Canada. Also if you've never been to the UK (or anywhere else outside the US) and only know about it from the news, you have no room to talk.
I find it funny all your questions seem to be about bashing the UK and saying how great America is but you're just enforcing the stereotype that people have about Americans.
You should be careful with how you boast and put others down
you may find yourself eating your words.
Amen Bumblebee!

Opinions are like A..holes, everyone has one! Now having said that I say this, I does not matter what they think. I am happy in the country I live in and would not have it any other way. I have been to Canada and one of my best friends lives there, had one of the best 3 days of my life and only 8 hours of sleep in those 3 days. Been to Mexico and had a lot of fun there, mostly drinking but that's what they are best for. I have not been over seas yet but hope to one day get there and go to England the home of my past. Everyone finds happiness in what is theirs and that right is there and bashing it does nothing else but cause a backlash of hate. Truely the beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I think the US is one Hot Babe...but what do I know, it's only my opinion.

I lived abroad for fifteen years. Very few I talked to, in fact no one,
wanted to live in the US. One friend liked travelling in America because it was like visiting a side-show.
A few years back, Interpol was open for research. Now only law enforcement seems able to tap into it.
In the research, I discovered Great Britain had 5,000 women incarcerated.
Australia had at the same time, 1,500 women in prison. That is a total
of 6,500, is it not?
Gatesville, Texas, alone, had 13,000 incarcerated women. Of course, I have rounded off the odd numbers. The population of Gatesville is slightly less than 16,000.
One of the more educated philosophical statements offered in a small group was that, "The American woman has more than any other, and the least to offer.
So, take care in pointing fingers at others unless there is a rear-view mirror attached, and you can see your own society in the reflection.
Update: five minute internet check;
The Current [2001] Situation.
Between 1936 and 1975 the number of women incarcerated in the
US varied between 5,000 and 8,000 prisoners. In 1980 there were 13,000. But by 2001 there were 94,336 women in prison, and another 72,621 women in jail, bringing the total incarcerated over 166,000.
What is the relevance? So goes Woman, so goes the World!

Well the fact that America is full of totally stupid and ignorant people like you, really answers your own question. Have you actually even set foot outside your country, or are you like the other 60% of Americans that don't even have a passport and think that USU should be changed to UWA for the United World of America? Or do you just read that comic called USA Today.
It is the only paper in the world to have a crossword made up of only 3 and 4 letter word answers. Says it all really.

I live in the UK and was born here, but I'd love to visit the USA. I wouldn't like to live there but I certainly have nothing against it as a country or the people that live there.
There are some bad eggs in the government but isn't it the same everywhere?

OK so you make really valid points....i'm live in the UK and am bloody proud to do so. We are VERY....erm.....not racially violent but more racially intolerant and i suppose that's to do with the influx of immigrants and the apparent 'sponging off the state' that 'they' appear to do. Then again i suppose that's not intolerance but morally right (maybe??!!).
Our whole society needs one big kick up the a s s.
I'm sure its great to live in the States but you don't have many global friends at the moment, then again neither do we.......at least we are not French.

Read the statistics, despite your draconian punishments you are down there with Red China, who also go for the harsh approach, when you look at serious crime rates. Maybe 1% or at most 2% of Brits would seriously want to go and take their chances in trigger-happy America, but the 98% with more sense ought to count in your definition of everybody, too.
Actually, go back a couple of centuries, and as a nation with a history, WE can, and we tried tackling a high crime rate with hangings for every little thing. It failed, big time, so now we know better here, for as long as schools teach history.

I am English and I would like to live in some parts of America. Every one is entitled to thier opinion and should be free to speak it. Are you sure its not Americans who are saying things about America in an attitude of humility. As some people do in England. I have worked with many Americans in England and abroad and found many with an attitude of humility.

People in other countries are not complaining about us, it is the NEWS people who are making the complaints. BAD NEWS sells. So they go looking for people who are mad at us, anywhere they can find them in the world, and put in the papers, tv, radio, magazines, internet. Sales are up, business is good. Happy news does NOT sell! If it did, the magazines in the grocery stores would NOT keep writing about divorces, splits, arguments, miscarrages, etc, etc.
