stop seeing the audience as a lot of people. see it as one. when u go into a movie theatre and theres a really funny movie on, the audience laughs together. its like theyre all connected. and they are, even more so during a theatre performance.
being nervous is good. which is why most actors give their best perfomance on opening night. if you are TOO relaxed and confident it will usually end up w/ a phlegmatic performance. even a best, most professional, and most experienced actors get the "first night jitters".
it helps if you take it a few steps at a time. start with a small audience, then add more , and more and more people untill the entire place is full.
and know that whatever you do, if you concentrate on the character and put urself in the scene you will do great.
break a leg.

it is normal what you feel. you need to learn to control this fear and in time it will go away or at least you will be a master at fighting it when it attacks.
start with your family or friends. they know you better than a whole audience and it will help you to remember this.
use the mirror.
keep practicing with smaller groups of people instead of jumping on a stage.
before you go onstage, just breathe and relax. stretch your body a little and don't think too much.
when you are on stage, just imagine nobody is there, it is hard, but try. look ahead at a certain spot behind the audience and keep your attention there.
stage fright goes away if you perform or speak in front of audiences on a regular basis. it needs practice to learn from what you did and didn't do.

Don't think about anything except what you are there to do. Don't try to look at the faces in the audience, because there will always be someone out there, trying to get your attention, causeing you to lose your concentration. Go over your lines/lyrics, and try to become that role. You can look into the faces later when you feel more confident, and competent.

ok, try and relax. Since you know and "think" you're going to be nervous and scared, people tend to worry about that. All you have ti do is ignore the crowd, and believe in yourself!
Hope It Helps
