you could just stay in denver... cherry creek, Highlands ranch, Broomfield, Boulder, Brighton, Lafeyette, Westminster, Thorton, Aurora(watchout some places are ghetto), out by the airport there are a bunch of nice hotels, Centennial, However if you want to be in a central location i'd just stay in the city of denver. Prices for hotels are all very similar for the Denver Metro area. if you want to be far out stay in Boulder Broomfield Longmont lafeyette or brighton.

Cost doesn't really change for wherever you stay in the Metro Area based on location, but on quality of place. If you want to be close to downtown, then stay in Denver itself, the entire 5 county area is pretty much the same, although Boulder is probably a bit more $, but very nice.

If you don't want to stay right in the city of Denver, but want to be close, try Golden, to the west in the foothills. It has a quaint "old west" style part of town and is very picturesque. Home of the Coors Beer brewery, Buffalo Bill's grave on the top of Lookout Mountain, Heritage Square and nice places to stay and eat.

If you like the City life Denver is the place to be, if you like it quaint go to Boulder. If you want to be up in the mountains try Glenwood Springs or Aspen.
