Very carefully use a box knife on its lowest setting to just slice the tape. It shouldn't be long enough to damage anything, but at the same time enough to slice the tape.

I use a small nail to puncture a hole and pull lightly. The boxes usually open quite easily like that. And if you have a lot of boxes to open, a nail will fit in the pocket on the front of a shirt and it's usually not so sharp as to make you have to worry about hurting yourself if you get poked at all by it.

I use a knife and try to just cut through the tape and not into the box.

I open them with my keys. They are too short to do any damage, but sharp enough to cut through the box. Or you could use little scissors.

If it's clear tape, then it's pressure sensitive, just poke it with a key ,toothpick, or the like while lifting up on the flap.
