Depending on what you mean by "easy". Dwarf rabbits stay small and are simple to take care of.

Rats, gerbils, and guinea pigs should fit the bill. They all require cages that are in a decent size (not terribly small but not too big either). Bedding, water, and food are typically the same as what was required for the hamster. This should be easy enough.

However, if you looking for a pet that is easier to care for than a hamster, then you'll have to look at reptiles. A hamster is pretty much the easiest to care for as far as mammals are concerned. Easier to care for still might be arthropods like spiders or scorpions.

Rats make awesome pets!!! They are so smart, entertaining, innovative and cute. I had a beloved rat named Tytis for 4 years. He was my best friend, he came everywhere with me riding around in my hoodie. You can train rats to do all sorts of tricks because they are very food motivated. I love rats. Now I live in a stupid province that bans rats as pets. Pfft. I have ferrets now. Ferrets are A LOT OF WORK so I wouldn't recommend them as an easy pet. They take so much time and attention or they will destroy your house. They are not meant to be a permanently caged animal, but if you dont have the time to watch them they will get into absolutely everything. Don't get me wrong, I love the little brats to death, they just aren't a "get em and forget about em" pet, and prone to many illnesses if improperly cared for.

Never had a chinchilla, but they sure are soft. Might be fun, except they are nocturnal... thats what I thought sucked about the hampster... they sleep all day and squeak all night!

Good luck.

gerbils and small white mice are good small rodents to have as pets
a hamster is also good. if you decide to change your mind about getting a hamster get a ball to put the hamster and it can roll around in your home do not let it roam loose since you got a cat mice and gerbils can also go inside the ball.
the cat will bat at the ball but small animals inside of will not be at risk of being pursued.

Mice are my personal favorites. Females get along with each other, and you can have several (boys - not so much, they fight). They are darling to watch, and with regular handling can get very tame. I started off with two mice - just wanted to try out something different; one of them turned out to be pregnant, and had babies within a couple of weeks... I was hooked... They were the most awesome little animals, and for such small size they sure had a lot of personality. I still keep mice, although the last of my original "batch" has been gone for years. Rats are also nice, but they need more space for the cage, and they smell more than mice do.

I have mice and they are gorgeous soooo sweet!!! They are little less expensive than a hamster and pretty much similar care. You could just sit and watch them all day they are soo sweet when they wash or wen they climb on the bars. Just make sure the bars on the cage are small enough because they can get through tiny spaces.

Rats however has to be the all time interesting pet. Loads of people think they are full of disease but Fancy rats are bred for pets so they are friendly and as clean as you keep their cage. They are like dogs but a smaller version of. You can take them for walks, teach em tricks, they even know their own name!!! Whenever you walk past their cage they will want to be taken out and give you kiss (yep they give you kisses!) They love lots of toys in their cage so even if you dont want them out then you can watch them play.

Gerbils love to dig you would need to provide them with sand and/or sawdust to dig in as love to burrow. its interesting to watch them make tunnels in it. They also look cute and innocent.

Hope you enjoy what ever pet you get

If you consider a rabbit a rodent that might be fine. Guinea pigs are cool too. I don't know if you are a mice kind of person, but a cute little white one maybe.

Consider ferrets. You should have 2. Once you get the cage, etc, they're easy to take care of. You won't allow e-mail, so, e-mail me.

You can get a guinea pig, naked mole rat (well, maybe they might be hard to take care of) a turtle, mice, bunnies, uh, I'm not sure what else... : )
