I am an AVON representative and I will tell you that being as young as you are I would not go to heavy because the products will probably hurt your skin. I would go with basics like a little powder, clear or sparkly lip glosses, maybe with a little tint to them and just a little eyeshadow. If you try to use too much too quick you will probably feel uncomfortable and it will cause you to have acne problems. Try going to a department store and get a makeover (most makeup counters do it for free) and that will give you a better idea of colors and kinds of products you should use for your skin type and color.

Hope this helps.

Most African Americans have beautiful skin and at your age I wouldn't wear too much. If you don't keep your face clean after using makeup, you will have acne. Try lip gloss like most of the answers and maybe a touch of eyeshadow with mascara for your lashes. Just make sure you wash your face morning and before you go to bed at night. Use a light moisterizer if your face feels tight.

I would like to start of by saying that you are to young to start wearing makeup. Only because makeup takes the true color away from a baby face like yours. If anything else try to where light make up like clinique or if you like more extravagant makeup go with Mac, and say good by to your natural glow in your face. Your skin will never be the same again. Sorry for being so honest but I wish somebody have told me this before.

Well, you have to first think about what you would like to enhance. For example, if you want to enhance your eyes then you should focus mainly on your eyes. Here are some examples on what you can use, you don't have to use all .. less is more!
Eyes: Mascara - Can help open up your eyes
Eyeliner - They can either make your eyes bigger or smaller, depending on where you use it.
Eyelash curlers - I LOVE these lol, they seem to make my eyes bigger .. but i'm not sure if they do this to everyones eyes.
Eyeshadow - Can help brighten up your eyes, make them look smokey, etc.
Face: Foundation - I wouldn't recommend this at such a young age. It helps HIDE spots etc.
Blusher - It gives your cheeks a rosy glow
Concealer - Takes away the bags

I would mostly recommend mascara, eyelash curlers and maybe eyeliner.

Maybeline mascara and lip glosses are great. Thats probably all you really need, keep it light and natural looking. As an African Am girl- you probably dont have bad skin- but if your oily or shiny, a loose powder or compact to match your skin would be okay.
Good luck sweetie

yea i wouldn't start wearing making all the girls who start wearing heavy makeup at your age end up with heavy ache fairly soon after. and since the only way to cover up the acne is with makeup, its a never-ending cycle until they decide to stop wearing makup for a while and give there skin some time to clear. so unless you have skin that has a lot of problems (like exsisting acne, scars, so discolored spots) i would advice you not even use makup, but if you do just to blend a dab over the problem areas and use a makeup with salic acid, which helps treat/prevent acne. to find out what color you use, put the makeup sample or container next to the inside of your wrist and compare the color. if its close, go for it, if it is way to light or way too dark, go a few shades up or down. you can do other things to keep your complexion nice, like at-home facials and washing your face every morning/night with a cleanser appropriote for your skin type. some other good makeup ideas are lip gloss (i advise against sticky kinds, your hair gets stuck! not attractive), eyelash curlers becuase they are super quick and easy to use, and no chemicals! mascara can be a nightmare before you get used to it and since you are african american i'm guessing you already have dark eyelashs, do give 'um a quick curl and you should be done. light, shimmery eyeshadow is always cute, but don't overdo it! for the most simple eye shadow look, only put the eyeshadow on the lid itself (the skin that is covering your eye). mascara can sometimes look too overdone, I would advise using black eyeliner with a fine tip, and doing a THIN (thin is key!) on the line closest to youe eye (not underneath the lashs) for a cute dramatic effect, you can do SMALL wings at the end of each eye. also, since you are african american, you can use a light bronzer power instead of blush to give you a pretty shine and attention to your cheeckbones. you also don't need to buy super-expensive makeup, its sooo overrated. the last eyeliner I got at the store cost me 78 cents and it works great! I would actually insist that you go makeup shopping with your mom, sister, aunt, ect. instead of somebody your age. if they think the makeup that your going to get is too dramatic, listen to them. if you are wearing too much makeup, even if it is expertly applied, you WILL look silly and there will probabaly be people making fun of you. so, since this is your first time of the makeup go-round, i would definatly stick to small changes! sparkly purple eyeshadow and thick teal eyeliner may look good on the models in vouge, but on a 13-year-old it just looks silly! i remember on one episode of full house, aunt becky said to stephanie "the key to wearing makeup...is to make it look like your not wearing any" and when you think about it, its pretty true! you want to look pretty, natural, and cute. like you were born with perfectly curled eyelashes, flawless skin and shiny, moisturized lips. keep the changes suddle! you will be happy you did 2 or 3 years from now when the girls who wore all the heavy makeup have acne and need to cover it up with even more makeup! hope i could help!

Wear lipgloss and every sooften you could wear eyeshadow and mascara.
On your dark skin, pink is a great eyeshadow. Same for lipgloss. Another good color would be green or purple.
Good place to get it is a rite aids, claire's and other stores like that.
