An iPod is an mp3 player, just the brand name. I own an iPod and love it. Dell also has a very good mp3 player. Don't get one of the cheapies at WalMart or Target. Buy direct from apple.com or dell.com because then you can get the service policy that will help you if something goes wrong with it.

I prefer non-iPod mp3 players. My favorite brand is Creative Labs. The problem with ipods is that the battery (similar to a cell phone battery), which is the most likely component to fail is not able to be accessed by the consumer. In order to keep your warranty in tact, you have to send the unit to Apple and wait several weeks for them to repair it.

My Creative Labs Zen has the same hard drive as an ipod, but I can easily get to the battery and replace it if it dies.

well you are asking a very interesting question, iPods are a technically mp3 players, but they are much more advanced than traditional mp3 players. They are considered to be portable media players, because they are capable of video, music, and photo playback. Anyways, in my opinion, there are other portable media players that outperform the ipod. However, if you want something that is sleek and stylish, i recommend the iPod.

I recommend an mp3 player. Ipod had an annoying sync function last time I had one. So I recommend the mp3 player

That depends on what you want it for. Ipods do more than just play MP3s.

Did I miss something here? When did Ipods stop playing mp3's? (I do know what you mean, but I just feel like being a smart ***).

I prefer the MP3 players.
They are easier to get music on & off of and you're not stuck with Apple's DRM.
My experience owning both has convinced me to not buy another IPod.
