This question is for other Tarot readers out there.I have read with the tarot cards for over ten years .I have never had any so called negative experiences with them, and don't consider them to even be in the same class or category as other forms of divination. They seem to be something more on a personal spiritual level.Anyway, several years back someone gave me a ouija board as a present.I had a very negative experience with it,frightening really and I don't even believe in the damn thing,I got rid of it,and have never touched one since. What is your opinion on this device?

The difference between the ouija board and tarot cards is huge. Ouija boards are traditionally devices used to 'contact' discarnate spirits who have passed on, or energies who have never been incarnated. That means, unless you are projecting out loads of positive 'white light' while using one, you can attract a whole host of annoying interlopers.

The tarot, on the other hand, is used as a focal point to get in touch with your intiuitve self, or, 'higher self' as its been called. You use the cards to access spiritual knowledge, not from spirits, but from yourself. Big difference.

Alos, most ouija board information is a load of crap, because of not-knowing who you are talking to. Occasionally someone gets a good contact with good info, but it is rare. 'Haunting' experiences are not uncommon.

I have used the board in the past, no problems, but nothing too interesting ever came through. I had a sensitive friend who started channeling one board 'spirit' via automatic writing, and had to stop because the contact was getting too intrusive.

Have to be careful with those things...

I have been reading tarot cards for years and I ALWAYS begin my readings by asking my spirit guide for protection. Although I don't think there is anything evil about the cards themselves, I do take on the thoughts and feelings of the people I read for, and sometimes those feelings can be very negative. My spirit guide protects me from these feelings, and helps me to keep them seperate from my own thoughts.

I think the same thing works for the ouija board.

I had a couple scary experiences with the board in the past, but I have to admit that they happened when I was with friends and we were drinking. I didn't take serious precautions like I do with the tarot cards. Perhaps because I am so open to the feelings of others, I was able to take on the feelings of people who have passed over onto the other side. And yes... this was a little freaky!

So now when I use the ouija board (which isn't often), I always light candles, ask for protection and request that only positive spirits visit me.

Oh... and as for my opinion, I do think it is a real tool. I've had some messages come up on the board that nobody could have known about.

When I was a kid I had a ouija board - I played with it a few times nothing ever happenend. When I got a little older I got into Tarot and I don't consider it a way to contact spirits. I personally don't want to contact spirits but I will give you a tip I think a lot of people forget. When you're playing with a ouija board Hollywood has us believe we always have to contact evil spirits. You can request good ones to come forward.
Hollywood groups us readers and ouija board users together, I do not.

I believe just like Tarot cards the ouija board is just a tool of divination. As a tarot reader do you protect (white light) yourself and ask for guidance from your guides before every reading that you do for someone? If you don't, then maybe you should. The same thing applies with Ouija boards, the board itself in not evil, it's just a board.
Most of the people who have had bad experiences with Ouija boards use it as some sort of game, they do not protect themselves, do not ask for their guides help and just use the board. When people do this, they are open to anything and because the Ouija board is such an easy tool to use, darker entities come to those who are using the boards with no protection and making their experience with the board scary and frightning.

One of the few things I know is this, that most of the stories from people I know that have had a bad experience with the occult starts out with, "We were screwing around with a Ouija board and...."

OK, answer for the occult minded. The Ouija board is used by clearing your mind, and allowing whatever is out there to take a ride. If you don't know how to filter out the nasties, and IF you don't know how to protect yourself, it can be a very nasty experience. Not everything that floats around out there is nice, and some things out there are downright nasty.

Answer for the skeptically minded (all demons are thankful for "rational men"). The Ouija board works by the subconscious mind subtly affecting the muscles in the arm, and moving the indicator around the board. Mostly this is random movements, but sometimes it actually forms words and sentences. Many folks, who aren't very introspective (the TV generation) have numerous repressed emotions, repressed ideas, and other things that they haven't dealt with in their psyche, this is what keeps the psychiatric community in BMW's. Many are not ready to confront, or even to acknowledge these repressions, and can have psychological problems after playing with a Ouija board due to these unresolved issues.

Take your pick.

If you call, something will answer. The question is, can you deal with what answers?

That is what I believe about Ouija boards. I do use the Tarot, but I've found that the "Spiritualism" side of divination is fraught with danger for the unprepared, and if it's treated as a joke can often bite you in the rear. (needless to say, I follow the occult answer)

I have used the board and will never touch one again. I cant believe that they sell them at toy stores! As for the tarot, I have had only two bad experiences. Its only because the two ladies that I read for had very bad negative things around them. Someone was working some black magic and didn't want them to know about it. (by the way I dont do this for a living - it is just for friends and family and not everyone knows about this.) Anyway, I got very ill both times!!!

The board itself is harmless. It is how one uses it that begins to define the experience. It is a tool like any other. But I should add that the tarot cards are carefully defined tools that use specific symbols. The ouija board only uses an alphabet to spell out perceived answers. Also the method of asking for an answer is rarely well defined. Many assume that the board is used specifically to contact an outside entity. Many believe it to be used to speak to spirits and "forces." This lack of definition in its methods and use allow for a much less reliable outcome. For example, if one asks that the "Spirits" bring them an answer, that leaves the experience wide open for any type of "spirit" to become involved and as many of us know, not all "spirits" have positive agendas. It leaves the reader open to all sorts of abuse.

I don't have any feelings about ouija boards, except that they are a waste of time and energy that could be better employed.
I have used tarot cards for 20 years now, and find them very satisfactory, although I tend not to be able to make any worthwile predictions about myself, that only happens when I have other readers do them for me. I wonder if that's something others have experienced as well.

The Ouija has never proved to be of any real value. But it can bring fear into its players when the odd unenlightened spirit drifts in through the doorway you unexpectedly open.

I believe we are all psychic, but for the majority the gift or the belief has been long knocked out of them. Educated out is another way of looking at it. Many professional psychics have grown up in a psychic friendly environment. Perhaps a grand-parent or parent with the knowledge has helped bring the extra sense out in the open and encouraged its use. But there are as many practicing psychics who have not had the benefit of caring psychic guidance and who have still managed to develop and hone this natural extra sense. The Psychic Sense.
