I had Kyphosis which is also caled Hump back instead of curve in the spine and I had the 8 hour surgery thing.Took almost 6 months before I went back to work. I guess I'll find out also if God lets me live a long life. I was told from my Docter that exercise was the best thing for those after back surgery.or just doing stretches also known as Yoga which I'm guilty of NOT doing like I should but I usually get back in the groove when my back starts aching and it goes away so I guess he knew what he was talking about. Sorry I couldn't help but hey I've wandered about that myself.Oh by the way I have good posture now and I lost 40 lbs and now I say it was well worth it. The first year wasn't great but now I'm glad I had it done. Even if it aches every now and then, it did that before but now I have good posture and a nice waistline. : )

The true definition for a positive diagnosis of scoliosis is that the curvature must be at least 10 degrees when measured by the Cobb angle method. There may be an increased risk of osteoporosis later on in your life.

Scoliosis does not imply curvature but rather 'extreme' curvature - and failing to correct this most definitely leads to problems in the future. The surgery in question is 'brutal', but it does not imply any risk other than recovery from the surgery itself.
