A society is when a population of individuals band together in support of certain rules and ideals. When one goes against their society they have to face the censure and rejection by those who support thoses rules and ideals. Therefore some people would rather conform to society instead of being forced to be on the fringes. Just remember resistence is futile and you will be assimulated.
