JOB DESCRIPTION – SENATORS

DUTIES:

1. Attendance at all Senate meetings – Second Tuesday of every month 7:30am to 9:30am.
2. Active participation on at least one of the Senate’s standing committees (2 hrs/month)
3. Provide communication via email about Senate matters to constituents in your academic unit
4. Solicit input from constituents for use in Senate deliberations
5. Serve as part of your unit’s nominating committee for positions on the FPPC and for Faculty Senate elections
6. Ensure your unit’s representation at Senate meetings by arranging for an alternate to replace you if are unable to attend a Senate meeting (see below]
7. Represent your constituents in Senate deliberations
8. Senators in the second years of the two-year term serve as the lead or senior Senators to coordinate the academic unit delegation to the Senate. This coordination is to prepare any reports requested by the Senate and to take the lead on soliciting information from constituents and to solicit nominations for the next year’s election of Senators from the academic unit.

JOB DESCRIPTION – ALTERNATE SENATORS
DUTIES:

1. Active participation on at least one of the Senate’s standing committees (2 hrs/month)
2. Attendance at meetings where you replace a Senator
3. Encouraged to attend all Senate meetings to stay abreast of issues
4. Seek feedback and input from constituents
5. Serve as a member of the Nominations Committee for your academic unit for
the Faculty Senate and Faculty Policies & Procedures Committee elections for
the annual elections process.
6. Alternate senators (who have served 2 terms as alternate) are eligible to be
nominees for the Faculty Senate elections for their academic unit
