The formost reason that cigarettes are not illegal is because many companies are making a lot of money. Without these businesses, many people would lose jobs or not have very much money. If they were made illegal, many people may become poor, resulting in worsening economy.
Another reason is because they provide an item that uses many (over 100) chemicals that may otherwised not be used. What would we do with these chemicals if they were not used in the many, many cigarettes that are made daily? They may end up in dumps or other products that should not be altered because there is no place for them to be used. With all of these extra chemicals around, they may possibly be sold secretly, or in stores for a cheap price because they are so common. This would provide access for young people to easily buy them and experiment with them, and we wouldn't want that would we?
My last reason is freedom. The constitution allows freedom, and that includes freedom of choice. It is a person's sole responsibilty and choice if they decide to smoke cigarettes. Allowing them not to do so would be going against what our own people allowed for us to do.
I hope this helps, good luck.

Ignore the safety Nazi's. I don't smoke, but under no circumstance can I advocate making them illegal, here's why:
- Nowhere on this planet has there ever been a single case of making something illegal, and it going away.
- When an activity is made illegal, it forces normally law abiding individuals to come into contact with the criminal underground to obtain the product or illegal activity.
- By diverting the funds that would normally go into corporate and shareholder accounts, into Mobsters and Gangsters, you strengthen their power.
- The courts and police have already got enough to do and yet people still get murdered and raped EVERY SINGLE DAY. Are we then going to add to their work burden? Or should we raise taxes to increase the police force by 200%, build yet MORE prisons, hire more public defenders and prosecutors, and build more courthouses to handle the burden?
- For examples, read up on Prohibition
- People should have the right to do WHATEVER they want with their own bodies. No governing body should EVER tell someone how they should live.
- Why should it be legal to sit at Pizza Hut buffet for 3 hours everyday to balloon out to 800 lbs, but not legal to puff on a cigarette?
- If we are going to legislate health, are we then going to legislate that we all have to work out 2 hours a day, and eat a set number of veggies too? At what point does government interfence into our personal lives stop?

Cigarettes are already legal. But they should remain legal because ultimately the government cannot force people to live healthy lifestyles. They can't make you eat granola and they can't make you exercise, so why should they stop you from inhaling smoke? This will likely be rebuttled by the argument that other drugs are illegal, at which point you should respond that those drugs can be dangerous in the short term, and can cause people to lost touch with reality, whereas cigarettes are much less harmful in the short run, and they don't make you hallucinate.

Because some people are addicted to them and although they kill people slowly the warning is right on the pack. Why is alchohol legal? People dont smoke a ciggarette or even a joint and get into a car and kill someone because they have had too many. When tobacco started becoming widely used people didnt know the side effects and what horrible effects it has on your body or would have probably never been legalized. They actually thought that smoking was good for your health.

Why don't your surprise your teacher and not debate what your forced to debate. That's illegal, cigarettes should be illegal cause there killing people slowly and there the most pointless product ever. But if you must debate why there legal the only reason would be if the companies donated a part to charities like lung cancer treatment centers lol

i don't smoke and hate it, yet listed decrease than are some motives: a million. It creates jobs for tobacco farmers, their workers, and others immediately and not immediately in touch in the industry. To counter: Our financial equipment is powerful and distinctive, and could take up all people who lost their jobs if the tobacco industry diminishes. 2. It makes one experience solid and comfortable. To counter: A cardio-vascular recurring that turns into habit will grant better thoughts (innovations releases endorphins for the time of/after workout), after workout, your blood stress is going down, you're comfortable, experience super, and you get long term advantages, while smoking provides you with long term problems. 3. loss of excise taxes. To counter: much less taxes, ability greater spending which will generate greater sales taxes, greater investment which ability greater earnings, producing greater earnings taxes. loss of taxes is a pretend argument. 4. Makes you look cool. To counter: That belongs to the age previously drugs proved that there is an instantaneous correlation between smoking and undesirable wellbeing. people who smoke do not look cool anymore as everybody is greater knowledgeable and mentioned those days.

There really aren't any.....but if it's a debate for school.....play the devil's advocate.
People should have a right to choose what they do.
They have been legal and it didnt ruin the world or anything.
I know these may sound a little out there....but i dont believe there really are any 'good' reasons.

Freedom is the right answer.
People enjoy cigarettes and the taste. They know they are dangerous to their health in the long run.
And --vitally -- it is UNETHICAL for GOVERNMENT to use its regulatory powers in an attempt to achieve a deathless, utterly healthy utopia. Government is a powerful but retarded Frankenstein. Though those of good will might want to use government power to make people's lives, those who come after, who refine and enforce such provisions, are attracted to government for less noble purposes.
A government that regulates the details of our lives will mold and attract those who wish to control others.
Be wise. Choose freedom instead of regulation.
