I have heard that Macy’s sales are in the toilet, because they ruined a Chicago Tradition and destroyed Marshal Field’s.
I have also heard that it’s because there merchandise is so shoddy that no one wants to buy it. Which one is it disregard for Chicagoans history or shoddy merchandise?

a little bit of both. I hate the fact that they have no regard for chicago and are just trying to cram NY down our necks. But anyone that I have talked to who has been in the formal fields stores tell me that there a mess and all of the good brands have been replaced by cheap ones. you might find more information on the website below. it talks alot about the boycott you speak of

A little bit of both. We LOVED Marshall Field's in Chicago. There was initially a movement to boycott Macy's in order to convince them not to get rid of the MF name. That boycott would have been short-lived, because consumers are fickle.

However, the quality of the merchandise at Marshall Field's is better than what they're now carrying at Macy's.

I can't remember the name of the Macy's brand, but it's a bit on the cheesy side...

i am from chicago and marshall field's was a chicago tradition. but, you are right on both accounts. i do like macy's, but not the one is chicago. marshall fields was the place to go to find great items at an affordable price. now, the merchandise is not as good. i think the whole debate will depend on whether or not macy's decorates for christmas the way that marshall field's did. people from all over would come to visit during the christmas season to see the lights, the windows and of course the big christmas tree. since they had bought marshall field's, they should have just left it alone and not changed a thing. however, like i said, i don't shop there strictly because of their selection.

never really shopped at marshall fields and that doesn't change with macy's. it's one thing to change marshall fields to macy's but it's a another when they take the state st. one down cause that's the original and a lot of history behind it. i think a lot of people are boycotting it because it changed to macy's and i think the other reason is because there are other stores where you can find the same thing for cheaper. a lot of people are more into bargain shopping than anything else.

Are you trying to stir up trouble? Marshal Fields has been enhanced.
Plus, Macy's goods are second to none. Signed Macy's.
