Does anyone else kind of miss the "early" days of mainstream internet? When mp3s were almost unheard of and we played midis of our favourite songs. When web page designs were so basic and to even have a graphic on them was exciting? When spyware and ads didn't slaughter our browsers? When guestbooks were still hip and we didn't have comment systems? When message boards were extremely simple and the only real feature they had was a customizable background colour? When Usenet was still actually popular (compared to now at least, but even then message boards were starting to take many of its users)? The brief period when everyone used the pay-to-surf advertising program, AllAdvantage (hey, I got a check from them once)? And so on...

Okay, its pointless nostalgia, but some of us remember those cool days when to me at least, the internet was a great big adventure and finding new friends wasn't so darn easy (MySpace, etc.).

yes i sure miss it. it was more of a challenge then. especially at geocities. they used an isp then and it crashed several times a day. once they even got flooded.

help pages almost didn't exist back then and you had to hand code all your web pages unless you had hot metal pro which was a real joke of a wysiwyg editor.

about the only game then was the great mud wall done in virtual reality. you would go there and throw balls of mud at the wall. wow that was boring, :)

a lot of people played mud (multi user dimensional) games via telnet.

not me i was busy answering questions in the old geocities help chat. back then you could use html in the chats. i was great putting large photos in the room and crashing everyone's computer because they only had 32mb of ram and 14.kb modem then

before i got a pc in june 1996 i had a radio shack color computer 2 and 3 and used a 8kb modem to connect to a local bbs at a local service provider. BORING!

I can think back about 12 years and remember being ADDICTED to my local BBS. I thought it was the coolest thing in the world.......and there was this game........I think it was called "Legend of the Red Dragon"........I liked that too.

Then AOL came and ruined everything ;)

Yawn.
Weird, you're waxing nostalgic about the internet....Imagine how much progression there will be 10 years from now.

What? No one has mentioned BBSs, the old "Bulletin Boards", before AOL, before Prodigy. Back when I was jonsin' for a 4800-baud modem.

THAT, is old.

my favorite part was how the pages loaded gradually, like a curtain falling . ..i liked waiting 30 seconds for each page.
