David Duke tried, but there was one that was actually endorsed by the Klan and won. Calvin Cooledge. They ran him in some souther states as Klan Kalvin Kooledge. No joke, you can even check it out. So yeah, America had a Klansman as president...ouch

The DUKE of Earl was a fine upstanding member of the clan. He always felt like he was the leader but the other clan members took away his membership to the relatively unknown Duke clan who came from Earl.
