i'd say neither; some of his books are good diversions but none of them, with the exception of Different Seasons, is particularly well written. he's basically telling the same story over and over again with different characters and settings;
is regurgitation and rehashing talent? pop musicians seem to think so, guess it's just turn of the century/millenium phenomena
the man is highly successful, a professer, author, producer and family man; clearly he is not mentally disturbed

Stephen King was quoted as saying "I have the brain of a child.... I keep it in a jar on my desk." Even though it was meant to be in jest I believe there is a lot in this statement.
Stephen does, in my opinion, write great child characters. Did he take a class in child psychology? I doubt it. I believe he just has a great imagination and an ability to take attributes from everyone he meats, or has met, and make them into solid likeable/unlikable characters. For me his stories are highly character driven (as apposed to plot driven).
The second part of his statement “I keep it in a jar on my desk” shows that he also has rare and slightly twisted sense of what humor is and what horroris. Horror is his passion and he has been studying it his whole life…
I believe Stephen would like you to think his inspiration comes from psychosis, but for me I believe it is just a twisted form of talent. … and the child’s brain he keeps on his desk.

he has got mental problems like all we do(if u think that brain is a chemical substance and u get different results" which proves that its not trustable" in every single checking) -just waiting inside to hit the surface under the spesific circumstances and he is a proffesional at his work.
he had find a way to combine his good knowledge of judging the human character with his well-educated brain which has the capacity to creat the wildest dreams and we all had seen the result .
a world wide billionaire ;)

I would say it is a bit of both. I think he is a very talented writer but to come up with some of his ideas... I believe he may be a bit disturbed.

He is good at what he does. He has an extremely vivid albeit dark imagination, and he expresses himself very well.
