Microsoft Word is a separate program from Windows XP.
It is usually bought with Microsoft Office but can be purchased separately.
Add about $100 to the cost of your PC if you want Microsoft Word.
Windows XP does include Wordpad. A word processor with VERY limited capabilities.

Windows xp is completely separate. Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, Publisher and Access are called Microsoft Office.

No. Some companies include a free copy of MS WordPerfect, which is a terrible program. In order to obtain Word, you have to get Office XP. The best option is to get Open Office, an open-source program suite similar to Microsoft Office, only difference is: it won't cost you 100 bucks. Do a Google search, you can probably find a free or very cheap copy to download. Hope this helps.

No, it is a stand-alone program. Many new computers with Windows operating systems come with Microsoft Works, which is Office-lite, and a trial version of Microsoft Office that you can activate and use for 30 days than pay the couple hundred to buy it and keep it functional.

As you can see by the many answers, Microsoft Office (which contains Word) is not part of the operating system XP, and unless you pay extra to have it installed, it doesn't come 'free'.
There are alternatives you may want to try that are very 'office-like' if you prefer not to spend the money on MS Office, such as Open Office, by Sun Microsystems:
http://www.openoffice.org/
It contains very, very similar programs.
Good luck!

No, Windows XP Professional will not come along with Microsoft Word.
MS Word is a application included with MS Office
As I know, Dell Computer would be shipped with a trial version of Office.
However, you can download a trial version of MS Office 2003 here :
http://www.microsoft.com/office/editions/prodinfo/standardtrial.mspx
After you use it for 60 days you need to buy a full version product key and covert this trial version to full version.
For steps to convert trial version to full version
http://www.microsoft.com/office/trial/convert.mspx
For other versions of MS Office :

nope it doesn't. Microsoft Word is a seperate program. If a computer you're thinking of purchasing comes with it then they likely would list it with the included software.

No, but they (Dell) can bundle it (actually MS Office) for a somewhat lower price than you'd pay retail.
