The New York Times and many papers let us know how much this war has cost us taxpayers but never really focused on the serb/bosnian war and costs to rebuild or the somalian war costs and rebuild costs? Does anyone know

None, primarily because there were no "no-bids" in those conflicts.

The real problem with the Iraq and Afgahnistan wars is not so much the basic cost, which might be well worth it if we got our money's worth. The problem is that literally billions of dollars have been allocated and either were paid out when work was not done, or simply disappeared. The reaction of the Bush administration was to essentially shut down the watchdog agency that reported the plundering.

It seems that about every 15 to 20 years, this nation's voter s succumb to the siren call of "smaller government" coming from the Republicans, when the truth of the matter would be "incompetent government". This is to be expected from a political party whose god, Ronald Reagan, always cherished the mantra "Government is not the solution; government is the problems." They then preceed to prove him true again and again.

Clinton might have attempted that sort of fiscal chicanery but with the campaigns you mentioned the UN was running the show and forking over a lot of the money. It's a lot harder to just lose money when some other organization is keeping an eye on things. In the case of US money going to rebuild Iraq, the Bush administration is not just asleep at the switch, they are comatose at the switch.
