Neither party deserves a significant majority right now. The Republicans lost some public trust through a lack of clear communication and a government tainted by corruption and a growing public impatience with the war. But the Democrats have few discernible plans on major domestic and foreign policy issues. No party has a clear mandate right now, and the near equal split in Congress is clear evidence of that.

What will be most interesting in the coming two years is to watch how the Democratic leadership acts with a majority in Congress. Almost all seats gained by Democrats in this election were won by moderate Democrats, however the Democratic leaders (Senators Reid, Durbin, Schumer, Byrd, Kennedy, and Boxer; and Congressmen Pelosi, Murtha, Hoyer) are almost entirely left to far-left. If they misread the election as a mandate for the far left, they may push for an agenda of rapid withdrawal from Iraq, continuous hearings on the run-up and conduct of the war, legalization of gay marriage, and other red meat issues for the left. This will only serve to reenergize a Republican base that is anxiously looking for solid, fair-minded conservative leaders. If the Republicans can honestly return to core conservative principles, a hard issues push by Congressional Democrats may well hand the presidency and both houses of Congress back to the Republicans in 2008.

Whatever your leaning - this will be an extraordinary next two years. I suggest we all get involved by letting our elected officials know that we demand civil and honorable governance by each and every one of them ... and that we will hold them accountable for such in 2008.

What influenced my vote the most was the % of time that my current member of Congress voted with his party. Unfortunately, he ran the nastiest campaign and won back his seat.

Happy? No, because my guy lost, but slightly happy that there is a shift in power and maybe we can get something legitimate accomplished.

Overall, I think we as a country work more effectively when one of the 3 powers is of the opposite party so maybe the last two years of Bush's presidency won't be as bad as the first 6.

After 9/11 the American people invested their trust in the Bush Group to handle many things, and in effect, gave them a blank check to do so. After six years of plunder, mismanagement, fiscal irresponsibility, scandal and ethics violations, "you're either with us or against us" at home and abroad creating the most divisive environment here probably ever, and most of all engulfing us in a war which William Buckley called "lunacy," that has led us to bankruptcy and no end in sight, the American people have voted the bums out. Many feared this result was no longer possible after hanging chads and Ohio in 04.' I felt a great apprehension in the country before the election, and a monumental sigh of relief afterwards. That all parts of the electorate including democrats, republicans, conservatives, and even 30% of Evangelicals, voted for this and it stuck, was a victory for us and our system. With oversight in the hands of democrats now, everybody will be on notice. It was interesting to see Bush standing alone in his post election press conference. It seemed to raise the question of whether he has been abandoned by even his own party as they "distance themselves" from the leaking ship. Much needs to be done to right the ship of state, but this election was a hopeful beginning.

Once again the sheep decided to try the other party! In a couple of years the Demicans will do something to piss off a group of people and then the sheep will turn back to the Republicrats. Someday the sheep will finally get bitten on the ... and realize that maybe we should look for something else in our politicians. Something that these two parties don't offer.
A chance to vote for people who really care about the American public and are willing to make sacrifices for change for the betterment of all of us.

I am an expat living in shame for years over here in Germany. But yesterday I was proud of all you people. You showed how Democracy really is supposed to work. Not like the last 2 presidential elections. what a farce that was. Lets wait and see if there is a change. If not its will be "gloves off" time once again.

Is President Bush and the Republican Party on notice for the next two years...?

Hardly,
Dems wanted control, now they got it. The balls in their court now. Remember there has not been one successful attempt on America since 9-11. Remember Wall Street has broken Historical records recently. Remember two Supreme Court Justices have been placed on the Bench who will uphold the Constitution and not Legislate from the Bench. Remember we have successfully banned Partial Birth Abortion. Remember Marriage as God intended has been protected. Remember you are paying less taxes now. Remember our southern border is becoming more secure as we speak.

really. the factitious Missouri "Proposition 2", allegedly for "stem cellular study" replaced right into a best party. It contained 2100 words, so very few people afflicted to study it. a lot of them, consisting of docs, did not keep in mind that it replaced into in truth a ploy to receive irreversible and out of control taxation for EMBRYONIC stem cellular study. The marketing campaign replaced into funded virtually completely by 1 "for-income" business employer, which will attain the monetary rewards. The Democrat "professional pattern poll" steered voters to vote "sure" on Prop 2, and clearly Claire McCaskill, Democrat candidate for U.S. Senate, and Michael J. Fox both counseled it. Now McCaskill is elected and Prop 2 is handed in Missouri. look out, because the subsequent ingredient will be an attempt to bypass a similar nationwide bill. perhaps embryonic stem cellular study will carry out a touch solid contained in the destiny, besides the undeniable fact that that is a lot in the back of the shown human being stem cellular study, and hasn't carried out something yet inspite of years of attempt and billions of money spent.

I'm just glad to get rid of the bashing ads on tv and to see some of the candidate signs removed from the streets. I'm disappointed in some of the amendments that didn't get passed that I was sure would. I've even thought that I might need to move to a more liberal county or state because I am getting sick of these @#$ % retentive jerks around here.

I'm just glad this dopey bickering has settled down a bit. I don't think we are all going to wake up suddenly in Lollipop Land, nor do I believe we will all wake up with turbans on. Not expecting any real changes of any significance. Business as usual.
