Twenty years ago, southern Christians were more associated with the Democrats, since the Democrats were the party that worked for social justice, equality, helping the poor and defending the weak.

Since the 1990s, the GOP has reached out to Christians by promising them action on a slate of important issues such as abortion, gay marriage, prayer in school, and allowing teaching of creationism. They've now had six years of unilateral control in the White House and both houses of Congress. In those years, they achieved practically nothing on these issues.

So as Christians, we have to ask ourselves, if the GOP did nothing on these issues when they had total control, are they EVER going to do anything about them at the national level?

And if they are not, where should be align ourselves? Jesus calls us to love one another, defend the weak, support the poor, give to unfortunate. These don't sound like Republican values to me.

Do they to you?

Your first premise is absolutely wrong. Southern Christians traditionally identified with the Democratic Party because the Republicans were the party of Lincoln and reconstruction. This pretty much held until the democrats started pushing for social justice and racial equality. Then the more conservative and also racist southern democrats moved to the republican party.

The Christians for whom abortion, gay marriage, school prayer and teaching creationism are hardly moderates, they are at best conservatives and at worst reactionaries. Jesus had nothing to say about any of those issues.

Christians who focus on Jesus' primary message as outlined in your last paragraph would be more comfortable as democrats in my opinion.

Someone doesn't know much about Jesus if they think he forbid anyone to eat pork. Any real christian would know that Jesus established a "New Covenant" superceding the Old Testament and the dietary laws. Jesus was a liberal who preached reaching out to "the least among us" including the poor and the sick.

Whoa whoa, this is way to much logic for Yahoo Q & A.

Very good points. I think you are correct. The issues in which religions and democrats agree on have had progess and work done on them. the issues in which religions and republicans agree on have not had much of any progress. You would think that more would be bleeding heart liberals like Jesus was.

Sounds Republican to me.
The Democrats kept our family poor, and the Republicans saved us.
Jesus cast the liberals to the swine. And then forbid us to eat pork.

No. technological know-how is area of religion. The sunlight, the Moon, Earth, nature. each and every medical situation is definitely carried out by ability of God. God created the Earth to be medical. I advise, Christian homestead-schoolers have technological know-how books. It doesnt advise they have faith in only technological know-how and not God. Haha figures! somebody gave me a thumbs down. Why? because of the fact I didnt not sleep on your standars and write approximately YOUR opinion? because of the fact I mentioned something different than what you mentioned? Idiots. only because of the fact I truthfully have a innovations, doesnt advise you're able to desire to get mad.
