driving jobs are covered by both the UK and EEC, hours and rest breaks are different depending on the vehicle being driven eg. PCV or HGV. A self employed driver fixes their own hours. If a taco is fitted to the vehicle penalties can be severe for breaking the rules. Google working hours directive.

Legally you can only "drive" for 12 hours then you must take a break. If he is driving for 20 hours he is putting himself and everyone else at risk. Coming from the wife of a 35 year professional over the road truck driver.

I thought it was a maximum of 11hrs with breaks in between HGV is quite strict as if you are pulled up it will tell on the tachograph even so 20hrs is far too long even with pull ups for breakdowns without driving working 20hrs would be far too much and not safe, wouldn't that come under health and safety

no more than 12 hours max if you have had a 16 hour break between each shift.

depends where you are... you say he done a 20hrs shift but that wont have been a 20hr driving shift....he have breaks inbetween....was he really working or playing away...??
