This is a no brainer! It has to be Albert! The Cards won the series, without him they would not have done that(sure the pitching helped also)! Howard and the Phillies had a great season, but you cant argue with Pujols being the unanomous choice in this question!

The only thing Howard was good for was hitting home runs. You can't say that Howard was some savior for the Phillies just because he "helped the team." Baseball is a 9-player game. No one player is going to change the entire season, and if you want to use that unintelligent logic, you can also say that Pujols did the exact same thing. If you look at the numbers, Pujols had a much better batting average, and that is a lot more important than hitting home runs (Not to mention, Pujols does quite a bit of that also). Pujols is a much better player hands down and deserves to win the award.

I think it is going to be Ryan Howard, followed by Pujols and then Beltran.

First, MVP is voted on before the playoffs, so it doesn't make a difference if your team gets knocked out in the first game or wins the WS, the MVP was decided before then.

Although the Phillys didn't make the playoffs, that is not a requirement (see Arod winning with the Rangers). Howard played well, offensively and defensively and almost got his team to the playoffs. That is remarkable given that the Phillys had given themselves up when they started trading a lot of their players. Yet Howard carried them almost there anyway.

This is a tough call, but I have to go with Pujols. He missed 6 weeks and his numbers were close to Howard's. Plus the Cardinals won their division and the Phillies didn't make the playoffs.

As an aside, the voting for the MVP occurs before the playoffs start so post season performance is not a factor.

Pujols should. Howard is one of my favorite players (he is from St. Louis) but Pujols is way more clutch. Pujols dominates in walk-offs, and a huge number of his home runs tied the game or took the lead. Plus Pujols just won the gold glove and carried the cardinals through the regular season and gave us the opportunity to win the World Series. If Albert hadn't been injured his numbers would have right there with Howard's.

If Pujols had not gotten hurt his numbers would of been off the charts. I think that individually howard had the better year. Their is no doubt that Pujols is the MVP of the Cardinals, but I would give the MVP of the league to Howard. These two could be fighting over the NL MVP for years to come.

I think Albert Pujols will win the NL MVP. Simply because he has a World Series ring and he was injured and still went on top in the NL and also the AL.

Ryan Howard. The Phillies were in the hunt for the wild card until the end and would never even have gotten close had it not been for Howard.

And not that this matters for the MVP voting, but Howard is a much more likable guy. Pujols is a piece of ****.

First let me say that while I think that Pujols is a better player I think Howard should be the `06 MVP. His team won more games and the biggest thing for me is that Phillie management surrendered the season (trading Abreu and Lidle) and Howard played like a man on fire.

You've got to go with Pujols. Their power, average and RBI numbers are all relatively close, but Pujols struck out 100 less times than Howard did. And his team made the playoffs. Without Pujols, no playoffs in St. Louis. Without Howard, still no playoffs in Philly.
