I have had no problems with periods in the past but after keeping a diary for the last six months am starting to worry. I do not want to go to the doc's if there is something i can do on my own.

Sounds like menopause to me. I started earlier than that and ended by the time I was about 48 or 49. And as much as I avoided doctors, I don't do that anymore. The fear of the "c" word or any medical intervention can end up with you being dead. I bet you don't want that. As a gift to the people you love and who love you, do what is right to make sure you stick around. Get a check up.

When I was 28 my cycle was 22 or 23 days apart for a while, then I got on birth control and it lengthened it

probably the beginning stages of memopause. The whole body gets out of whack. Irratic periods, hot flashes, mood swings.
