I think they've had some technical problems. They seem to have sorted it out for now though.I followed the advice of that annoying automated response service, and downloaded the new spyware program. After that,I kept getting interrupted every 5 minutes,so ended up with another problem to fix!...I think that they should have let people know that they were having technical problems-it's very frustrating when you don't know what's going on.

Sounds like others have been having the same or similar experience with AOL

Personally, AOL would be my very last choice for a home page or an ISP.

If you want to get rid of AOL completely off your PC follow these instructions.

GETTING RID OF AOL ON YOUR PC

Do yourself a BIG favor. Remove anything on your PC that even mentions AOL. It is a resource hog and simply tries to take over your pc.

Click on Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove any AOL programs residing there.

Now click on Start > Search > For Files or Folders > All Files and Folders
type in AOL in the top box and let the computer do a complete search of your hard drive. When it is done, click on Edit at the top of the window and click on Select All
Then click on File and click on Delete. It will ask you if you want to remove them. Click on Yes.

If you want to REALLY finish the job:

NOTE: DON'T DO ANYTHING ELSE IN THE REGISTRY OTHER THAN WHAT I MENTION HERE. If you are not familiar with editing the registry and you do other things you may give yourself some big headaches.

Click on Start > Run >
type in regedit
click once on the very top directory to hilite it.
Hold down Ctrl + F; this will open a search window
type in AOL and then click on Find Next
when it finds an AOL entry, right click on it and select Delete and yes. (Do this if it is a folder in the left hand pane or if it is an entry in the right hand pane)
Hold down Ctrl + F again and repeat the process until you have cleaned your registry of all AOL items. This may be a very tedious process so hang in there.

When you think you have it all out. Go back up to the top directory in the left pane, hilite it, and search for AOL once again just to make sure you didn't miss any.

Once you are completely done. Reboot your PC. This will reset the registry without all the AOL crap. Now you should be able to reset your home page to yahoo.com without any problems.

If you need other tips on how to increase the performance of your PC, drop me an email.

Hope this helps.

What are the hardware specs? What CPU, and how a lot RAM? enable us recognize, purely then can we provide perfect suggestion. Is the device free of malware and viruses? make confident of that. Are all Microsoft updates utilized impressive? Are you (i desire not) operating any pirated software? Is the problematical force almost finished? Are the MFT and web page document fragmented? (XP defragger can't defrag those). What does the defrag record say about fragmentation? Is the force impressive defragmented, and importantly, are the carry close document table and web page document defragmented completely? I ask because fragmentation is like an insidious affliction that takes over the drives silently and hits performance problematical, highly on older pcs. a very good computerized defragmenter (google 'completely computerized defragmenter') facilitates in protecting problematical force performance and undemanding device performance, which the XP defragger can't do. you should save the drives defragmented.

I phased out using AOL a few months ago because I was having constant problems with them, like (not responding) coming up all the time.
I now use my internet explorer and Yahoo! as my home page, and seldom ever have those problems.
AOL sucks.
