I just had a gereral psych test on freud, piagte, maslow ect...I know in one of freuds theroys, he says that what happens in our early childhood, effects our personalities, especially unresolved childhood sexual issues. But what I want to know is, what other sexual issues, BESIDES molestation/incest, would a child even have, nevertheless need reslovement?

When Freud talked about sexual issues in childhood, he didn't mean actual sexual experience like intercourse etc. He was referring to anything that surrounds sexual issues and pleasure, even as simple as seeing a nude body.

Freud proposed sexual stages that all children go through, in which a child will gain pleasure from different areas of the body, the oral stage, anal stage, genital phase etc. And according to Frued, if the child experiences any traumatic event during these stages (which last up to the age of 5) they will develop a fixation on either the mouth, the anus etc. that will last all their lives.

Another sexual issue with child is the 'family romances'. It's not a popular theory, but Freud suggested that the mother and the father are the first persons of sexual desire for children because its when they first experience the nude body, coupled with the desire to be near their parents. This apparently leads to girls resenting their mothers and boys resenting their fathers.

The whole nude body thing was another sexual issue. When boys first lay eyes on a female nude they are apparently 'traumatised' by the lack of their penis, and so begin to fear castration, which is why guys are so obsessed with their misters. On first seeing a penis, girls learn to fear any type of impalement, and so envying the penis and wanting one so they can do the impaling.

Then you have his whole Oedipus theory, from the roman myth of Oedipus who slept with a woman he later found out was his mother and so gouged out his own eyes in punishment. Freud was more concerned about boys wanting their mothers than girls wanting their fathers.

So there's lots of sexual issues there. Whether you agree with them or not .. you can decide obviously.

Happy Freuding.

The sexual child issues Freud posited were full blown from his own mind. Many others have asked the question you asked and for good reason. Freud was totally wrong, here. It cost him his disciples; Jung and Adler. It cost him his after death reputation, as evolutionary biology has made a hash of much of what he had posited. Question everything, especially in psychology.

In Freud's world, a lot. If I remember right, he believes we have too main drives, a sexual drive and a destructive drive, and everything we know, do, or think can be explained in one of those two drives. I couldn't explain it all to you, but surely someone could.
