And others including Lynyrd Skynyrd, Janis Joplin and the Holding Brothers Co., Gladys Knight and the Pipps, etc.? It seems that music is all Britney Spears and hiphop. I don't mind Kylie Minogue and Jessica Simpson, but they don't call themselves great artists. They are just pop entertainers on the radio. I do like pop music but prefer something like the Beatles, the Smiths, the Cranberries, the Coors and Sean Cohn.

1. People are interested in said iconic bands

2. Not all modern bands are pop groups, there are MILLIONS of artists and bands and most people are devoted to at least one that is far out of the mainstream

3. Listening to bands purely because they are iconic is pathetic - everyone lists Metallica as iconic, Iron Maiden is a far more important band for the metal scene, and other thrash groups like Kreator, Megadeth and Anthrax are far better than Metallica - but they are ignored because they are not mainstream.

Well, some people, probably Most of them,
can't understand the "complex music" of great bands such as Queen, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple or the ones you've mentioned.
Most people like simple things, which can be understood easily, like crappy Rap or Hip hop (which I believe is NOT music!).

Some other people think that if they talk about the iconic bands, the others would tease them! Which I've encountered such persons! And I don't get it !why?

Good question though!
Long Live Metallica!

Rock on! You have a keen ear for good, complex music that
stands the true test of time. The Smiths-a fabulous band with
a charismatic intelligent leader, Sir Morrissey. Janis still rocks,
decades after her death. Good music holds up over time and
touches something deep within us. There will always be the
pop icons churning out product after predictable product, for
those who will buy it. Instead of being force fed trends, I
prefer to nibble at the buffet of Tunes.

Well I tend to be very eclectic. So I listen to everything but would most definately take Lynard Skynard over Britney Spears. It's sad that people aren't interested in them as much anymore and are trading great artists for pretty good imitators.

I have no idea - but my tastes run to real music. Il Divo is a new male group that can actually sing - they're in concert with Barbra Streisand right now.
