I have had some strange text messages sent to my cell phone via a computer. Is there a way for me to trace them back to the computer that sent them, and maybe find out who sent them?

Not easily. Cell phones do not have that ability. It would take the phone company to do the tracing. And then they could probably only get as fast as the ISP that the sender uses. By law, an ISP can not provide the name of its users without a court order. You would have to involve the police, courts, cell phone company etc to do it. Unless the messages are threatening or otherwise criminal, it is unlikely they will help you. So there is not simple way to trace the messages back to their source.

Anything sent from a computer can be traced.

My advice
get over it
too much of a hasle posibilities are endless
Do you really want to go that far and spend that much time and effort after a text message?
And even if you found who did it what is the resolt of that going to be?
Most likely the will not get arrested.
And is better for you not to know couse you might get in troble with that person

Anything sent by computer can be traced. You don't even have to send anything to be traced. People really need to read the EULA's and understand them before doing ANYTHING on the computer...

reverse phone number search compiles hundreds of millions of phone book records to help locate the owner's name, location, time zone, email and other public information.

Use a reverse phone lookup to:
Get the identity of an unknown caller.
Identify an area code.
Recall the name of a person whose number you wrote down.
Identify an unfamiliar phone number that shows up on your bill.

You probably can but I think that type of rig is either with the phone company or ' government ' types.
